Course Description

How do we nurture our children and provide the necessary elements for growth? How do we remove the impediments to becoming their own persons?

Building on the foundation of relationship set in Part I of the series, The Vital Connection, this sequel focuses on how to help children realize their potential as human beings. Growing older is no guarantee of growing up. Childhood is when most of the growing up should occur but we need to know how to cultivate the maturing process. This course sheds light on the adult’s role in the miracle of maturation.  

Some of the topics we will discuss include:

* What is a parent's role in helping their children grow up?
* The critical importance of rest in child development
* How to provide more than your child is pursuing
* What are the keys to raising responsible children?
* How (and when) children become their own persons
* How we can help our children learn to adapt
* And much, much more...

Each week, we will review a one-hour video lecture of Dr. Neufeld followed by one hour of facilitated discussion and Q&A. The course will be facilitated by....

The Online Format

We will be conducting this course live on the internet with an advanced but easy-to-use system. Each week, participants will log on to a special web page where they will be able to view and hear the course instructors, watch video and ask questions. We will also have a special message board set up for discussion between classes and to download notes.

8 Monday mornings from 9:30am-11:30am Pacific Time. October 20, 27. November 3, 10, 17, 24. December 1, 8.

The Facilitators:

Melanie Calabrigo is a parent educator and consultant with a background in education and family therapy. She is a member of Dr. Neufeld's faculty and is an Authorized Neufeld Presenter and Practitioner.  She is also the Director of the Neufeld Parent Educators Program. Melanie has worked with Dr. Neufeld's material for the past 17 years. An experienced family therapist, she has worked in a variety of settings, teaching, facilitating groups, and consulting. Although Melanie has worked professionally with children and families for over 25 years she considers her most important role with children to be as a mother.

Todd Sarner is a parent educator and consultant and Co-Director of Transformative Parenting in Marin County, California. Todd has worked for many years as a counselor with parents and children, including as an in-home counselor and mentor for foster and at-risk youth. He is an Authorized Neufeld Presenter and Video Course Facilitator and is also on the Faculty of the Neufeld Institute. When not doing parent consulting work and talks, he also enjoys doing attachment-based couples counseling (EFT for Couples). Todd is the proud father of 5-year-old Benjamin.
